Principal

Andrew Haley

I am extremely proud to be the Principal of Dromana Primary School and I am pleased to welcome you to our wonderful school. I look forward to meeting you and your family.

At Dromana Primary School we have a strong commitment to providing the highest possible standards in learning for every student in our school. Dromana Primary School is a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and our dedicated staff work closely together in collaborative teams with a strong focus on student learning, results and collaboration. This approach ensures that we are able to cater for the needs of each of our students. This is reflected in our mission statement ‘All staff of Dromana Primary School are here to support the academic, social and emotional development of our students to enable them to reach their fullest potential.’

We plan and deliver engaging lessons in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy where whole class instruction and discovery time is strengthened by facilitating focus groups during each session. Students are also supported during student conferencing which enables them to learn alongside their teachers and peers. Students learn at their level by building on their prior knowledge, to develop their skills, to challenge their thinking and to make new connections. We work closely with our students so they have a voice as they set their individual learning goals to support the direction of their learning.

We also offer an amazing specialist program that includes Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Coding and Robotics, and Japanese. We have our very own boatshed that is located right by the water’s edge at the beach in Dromana, which our students regularly visit. Our students are often seen in our local community, so much so that we now have our own school bus named ‘Norm’. Having our own school bus provide us with endless opportunities to take our students out in the community to learn in a range of settings. Students also participate in a One to One Laptop Program from Year Four onwards. This program allows our students to develop excellent skills in this area.

We have well-maintained grounds, which offer our students a range of options for them to explore during recess and lunch. For students who prefer to have something a little more structured to do during these times we offer a range of lunchtime clubs for students to enjoy such as sports, choir, Japanese activities, gardening club and more. We have an amazing basketball stadium at our school that our students, and our community, is able to use.

Parent participation is strongly encouraged and we are always looking for new ways to involve our parents in our school.
