Our Wellbeing Vision
Every child feels safe, seen, supported and ready to learn.
At Dromana Primary School, wellbeing is not a separate program, it is interwoven into everything we do. We understand that relationships and emotional regulation come before learning, and we prioritise creating calm, predictable and inclusive environments where every child can thrive
A Safe and Nurturing Environment
We are committed to maintaining a school culture where students feel:
Safe and secure
Connected to their teachers and peers
Valued for who they are
Supported to learn and grow
All staff are trained in the Berry Street Education Model, which underpins our trauma-informed approach to teaching and learning. This ensures that our classrooms are calm, structured and relationship-focused.
Our wellbeing practices include:
Predictable daily routines
Calm, supportive learning environments
Unconditional positive regard for every student
Co-regulation strategies that help students build independence
Brain breaks and movement opportunities
Explicit teaching of emotional regulation skills
Explicit Teaching of Social and Emotional Skills
Each week, students participate in structured lessons through the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. These lessons build students’ skills in:
Emotional literacy
Respectful relationships
Problem solving
Personal responsibility
Resilience
We also implement evidence-based behaviour frameworks including:
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS)
This means students experience consistent expectations, positive reinforcement and clear, logical consequences across the whole school.
Inclusive Classrooms
Every classroom at Dromana Primary School is designed to support student wellbeing and regulation. You will see:
Calm Corners or Regulation Spaces
Visual daily timetables
First–Then boards and countdown timers
Flexible seating options
Emotional literacy displays
Co-created class agreements
Smooth entry and transition routines
Low-stimulation, decluttered learning spaces
These structures help students feel secure, know what to expect and remain focused on learning.
Wellbeing Beyond the Classroom
Wellbeing continues throughout the day with structured Tier 1 supports in our yard and lunchtime spaces, including:
Lunchtime clubs run by teachers
The Sanctuary (open Tuesday–Friday)
Library access at lunchtime
Vegetable garden activities
Our Mighty Merit Shop, led by House Captains
These opportunities foster belonging, leadership and positive peer connections.
Strong Partnerships & Inclusion
Inclusion is central to our work. Our Education Support (ES) staff work alongside teachers to ensure every student can access learning and participate meaningfully in school life.
Through shared planning, consistent expectations and a team-around-the-learner approach, we:
Provide targeted support where needed
Collaborate closely with families
Work with external specialists and services when appropriate
Maintain high expectations for every student
Celebrate growth and progress
We believe every child deserves to feel capable, confident and connected.
At Dromana Primary School, wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility. By building strong relationships, maintaining predictable routines and teaching essential social-emotional skills, we create a foundation where all students are ready to learn and succeed.
