During weekly Coding and Robotics lessons students learn basic coding skills through the lens of digital storytelling and gamification, numeracy skills are displayed and reinforced with the use of Sphero robots who communicate with us using angles as they move around the dedicated Coding space.

Cross-curriculum learning happens through combining Science and Aboriginal studies with our colour coded Ozobot robots to tell dreamtime stories, as well as learning more about native animal habitats as we play Turtle robots and create our own board games to reflect our learning of programming.

Coding and Robotics at Dromana Primary School is important to future proof our students. We know that our students will need different skills than in the past, as the jobs that will exist for them, as they entered adulthood are still unknown due to the rise of automation. We want to equip our students with the skills to be entrepreneurial, collaborative, creative, and solvers of real world problems.

At Dromana we harness children’s natural curiousity and imagination through collaboration, creative and critical thinking as well as problem solving in our Coding and Robotics Program.

At Dromana Primary School, Digital technologies enhances learning, and gives students new ways to provide solutions and to create new ways of seeing the world.

Throughout their time in Coding and Robotics from Prep – Grade 6, students will have access to programmable lego, Bee-bots, Dash and Dot robots, OSMO coding games, Cubetto robot, Scratch and Scratch Junior, Hour of code, Minecraft Edu, as well as various unplugged coding activities (activities without screens).
